Our eco plan

We have a firm commitment to developing and managing homes that limit the effect on the environment and are cost effective to run. Our innovative approach to environmental sustainability has received much recognition and led to us receiving a Gold Award in 2007.

Our sustainable development strategy - in place since 2005 – has delivered a wide range of improvements at new developments, in existing neighburhoods and across our operational activities. Some examples of our work so far include:

• developing two of the country’s largest eco developments
• working with a number of other organisations to establish the Existing Homes Alliance
• partnering  with a solar power company to develop cost-effective solar powered products
• establishing an energy price comparison website where customers can switch suppliers and save money
• introducing video conferencing in our offices to save on staff travel – which has saved almost a million road miles a year.

These are just some examples of our work so far. We recognise that much more needs to be done to meet the Government’s targets of building zero carbon homes by 2016 and reducing emissions in existing homes by at least 80 per cent by 2050.
