Wellbeing
Our staff get lots of benefits. We've also introduced a wellbeing policy, calendar and intranet. This helps staff manage stress and improve health - at work and at home. We're proud to work with Business in the Community as part of the Business Action for Working Well campaign.
Case study: making Edinburgh a better place to work
"We've converted and extended a small kitchen into a staff room with seating. This gives staff an area to eat their lunch away from their desk. We've also introduced a weekly fruit run where volunteers buy fruit from local shops and distribute it free to office staff. We've raised money for charity by bringing in home-baked cakes to sell and we're asking staff whether a walking club would interest them." (Lynn Te Rito, Health and Safety Compliance Officer).
Health and safety
In 2010/11 we provided around 900 staff with health and safety training. Auditing and performance monitoring has improved too.
Equality and diversity
Last year the Audit Commission gave us top marks for equality and diversity. Our workforce is becoming more diverse and we're making our recruitment process simpler to reduce barriers for people who are looking for a job.
