Corporate Social Responsibility

Corporate Social Responsibility – the way an organisation makes
a difference to people’s lives and invests in the long-term
sustainability of communities - lies at the heart of our business.
Our purpose is to develop new communities and improve existing ones
so they become places where people choose to live – with good
quality homes, a range of facilities and the opportunities that
people need to prosper.
We recognise that our activities can have an impact on our
customers, employees, other stakeholders and the natural
environment. We have a responsibility to make sure that everything
we do is not only ethical but also benefits the people we work with
and the environment. To find out how we do this, download our
latest Corporate
Social Responsibility report.
Our reporting of key social and environmental issues is informed by
our ongoing dialogue with a wide range of stakeholders, including
customers, staff, suppliers and community partners.
Our approach to being a responsible business has been recognised
through a number of awards we have won. These include Gold Awards
for Environmental Sustainability (2007) and Tackling Worklessness
(2008) and, more recently, a Housebuilding Innovation Award for our
De Montfort University employee degree programme.
Over the last couple of years we have worked with Business in the
Community. In 2008 we made our first entry into its Corporate Responsibility (CR) Index
which is a well-regarded benchmark for CSR performance. We are
proud to have made it into the top 100 with a Bronze Award. This is
a significant achievement for us as it puts us among some of the
biggest organisations in the UK – the majority of which are global
companies.
