Who do I contact if I need a repair in my home?
Our Customer Contact Centre which is available 24 hours a day 7 days a week on 0800 4320002. Alternately you can visit our Online Repairs website.
Am I responsible for any repairs?
Yes In general let properties You are responsible for windows and other glazing, fixtures and fittings e.g. curtain rails, lost keys and new locks , blockages in sinks and waste pipes caused by incorrect use e.g. blocked by disposable nappies, sink and bath plugs. More information on repairs can be found in our Repairs to your Home customer booklet, For different tenure types such as shared ownership levels of repair are dictated by the individual lease and and each scheme will therefore be different.
How do I contact my local office?
You can ring the Customer Contact Centre on 0800 4320002 and request to be transferred to your local office or your local Housing Staff via the direct dial number that your Housing Officer will have provided you with. You can also contact us via the website or by emailing your Housing Officer again at the email address provided.
What are my local office opening times?
Usually 8.30 – 16.30 Monday to Friday but times may vary locally and appointments made at request outside of these hours.
I would like some improvements to my home – who should I contact?
In the first instance you should contact your Housing Officer. You may need permission before undertaking any improvements to you home and we can advise on this. If your request is for disabled adaptation to your home again we can help with advise on the best possible options for you.
Do you decorate rented homes?
No , decoration is the customers responsibility , the only properties we decorate are those empty and requiring redecoration prior to re-let.
I rent my home from Places for People, can I buy it?
Some customers who rent their homes from us can buy their existing home through the Right to Buy, Right to Acquire or Social HomeBuy.
You can read or download booklets about the Right to Buy and Right to Acquire from the Housing Corporation website www.housingcorp.gov.uk. Copies can also be obtained from your local office.
Please contact your local office to find out if you live in an area where you can buy through Social HomeBuy.

How do I move to a different part of the country?
You can apply for a transfer to another area with Places for People.
Do you have a list of tenants who wish to swap homes?
Yes our offices have a board or list where customers can advertise or look for a swap.
What do I do if I have a wasps nest/ants/fleas/squirrels infestation? Is it my responsibility, Places for People’s or should I report to my local authority?
Infestations are dealt with by the local environmental health department unless you live in Scotland.

What do I do if I've lost my keys?
House keys are your responsibility and if they are lost rather than stolen then you will have to get a locksmith yourself.
I have had my window smashed who do I report it to?
You must obtain a crime reference number from the Police and then report it to your local office or the Contact Centre.
My TV picture is very fuzzy
We maintain communal aerials but not individual ones. If it is your aerial it would be your responsibility.
