Social rent

We've been providing affordable homes for rent for over 40 years. These homes are part-funded by the government - so the rent may be lower than homes offered for private rent. Anyone can apply.

Why do you want to move?

You can apply by one or all of these paths depending on your circumstance.

My current home is unsuitable

This is the called the general application path. We award points based on why you need to move. The more points you have, the more chance of getting a home:

My home is unsafe to live in (fire/flood) 50
Someone has a medical condition that would be improved by moving house 50

No bath, living room, kitchen toilet, hot-water supply 10 (for each amenity you lack)
I live above or below ground floor with a child who is under 10 10
I'm sharing a bath/shower, living room, kitchen, tiolet with people who are not in my household 5 (for each amenity you share)
I have too many bedrooms 5 (for each room you don't need)

I can help a particular community

This is called the community application path. You may want to move into a new community for a number of reasons:

  • You have long-term family connections in the community
  • You give support to someone in the community
  • You're active in a community and you want to be closer to it
  • You do paid or unpaid work in the community.

Will I get a home?

We let about 15% of our homes this way. If you're accepted you'll be put on a waiting list. Your application will be dealt with in date order. Find out more about how we decide.

I can pay rent without housing benefit

This is called the economic application path. It's likely that you:

  • Work
  • Are moving to start a job
  • Have savings or a private income.

We let about 10% of our homes this way. If you're accepted you'll be put on a waiting list. Your application will be dealt with in date order. Find out more about how we decide.
