NDNA Quality Counts award and investors in children award:
The Quality counts award acknowledges a childcare provider as extraordinary. It builds upon the unique provision each setting provides while ensuring each one has the same ethos of commitment to families, staff, the community, and above all the child.

The award is spilt into 12 sections which has 3 levels and settings must provide evidence to demonstrate that its practice meets the quality criteria, and then they are assessed across all 3 levels.

Places for children Newburn Riverside received level 3 in 9 of the sections and level 2 in 3 sections.

Our overall grading was a level 2 with an outstanding report from the assessor which we received in October 2007.

The report can be viewed in the parents entrance area at anytime, if you would like to have a copy please do not hesitate in asking a member of staff.

Investing in Children Award:
Investing in Children is based on how we encourage the children to make choices and have a voice towards new changes.  We were assessed for this award and received the certificate in June 2007.

0 to 2 years room update:
The children are now going outside at 11am and 3pm so could you please provide them with warm coats, hats, scarf’s, gloves and wellies if possible.

During activity time the room is now dividing to under and over 1 year olds. Under 1's activity time will mainly focus upon their physical and sensory development.

2 to 5 years room update:
The 2 to 5 years room are opening the garden doors from 9:15am. Children can chose to participate in activities and play inside or outside of the nursery as they wish. This has shown to reduce illnesses amongst the children and increase the children’s concentration span. Could parents please ensure children have warm coats, hats, scarfs, gloves and wellies if possible in their bags.

We are developing a general interest table for the children within the nursery. As your child picks any items up on walks, or shows interest in particular photos, toys etc then please bring them in for the table so that children can discuss items and share stories.

The holiday bear is going to be given to children to look after for weekends or when they go on holiday. If your child receives the bear would you please take photos, and record where the bear visited in the book and return them to nursery on your child’s next session. This will help staff and other children to discuss the bears' continuing adventures.

Baby Signing:
All staff are now fully trained in Baby Signing which has been incorporated into the daily routine to develop the children’s language and communication click here to return to the top of the pageskills.
