We are once again proud to have honoured the unsung heroes in our communities, at a celebratory awards lunch in York.
Our annual Good Neighbour Awards invite customers from across Great Britain to nominate local people who go the extra mile to make a positive impact on life in their community.
2017's event welcomed 32 Places for People customers to the National Centre for Early Music in York, to receive an award from the Group Chief Executive David Cowans.
Among the year's worthy winners was four-year-old Sofia, the youngest winner in the event's seven year history. Sofia, from Clacton-On-Sea was recognised for the life-saving call she made to the emergency services when her mother collapsed due to a heart condition.
Other honourable winners include duo David East and Derek Alond from Blackburn in Lancashire. The award celebrated their dedication to setting up the Veterans Breakfast Club - an initiative aimed at reintergrating ex servicemen back into the community.
Many residents from across the country were nominated for everyday acts of kindess and generosity, such as helping neighbours with their errands, providing emotional support at times of crisis, and taking a hands-on role in the upkeep of their local neighbourhood.
Nominations for the Good Neighbour Awards 2018 are now open.
