Places for People has become the first housing and construction firm to join Innovation Gateway, alongside the likes of Tesco, Heathrow and RBS. The partnership with Innovation Gateway will help cement our longstanding commitment to sustainability in the social housing sector and help us deliver more homes to a higher standard through continued innovation.
As part of the partnership, we will be able to access and source the latest proven technologies from other sectors. In particular, we are aiming to prioritise and test new technologies to do with constructing and retrofitting housing, as well as modular buildings and digital manufacturing. With these innovations, the Group hopes to improve the overall energy, waste and water efficiency for our current and planned housing projects.
The partnership means we will now be able to benefit from the collaboration with Innovation Gateways’ diverse private and public sector partners.
Innovation Gateway is an alliance of leading organisations working together to transform the performance of their buildings with high impact innovations. The partners share experience and innovative solutions to reduce cost and environmental impacts across energy, waste, water and wellbeing. Since its launch, the platform has sourced over 600 targeted innovations from around the world to address partners’ challenges.
David Cowans, Group Chief Executive, Places for People said, “I’m delighted that we’ve been invited to join Innovation Gateway, in what is a first for the housing and construction sector.
“As one of the largest placemaking organisations in the UK, owning and managing over 195,000 homes, with a pipeline of 16,000 new homes across all tenures, the opportunity for us to access, pilot and implement new technology is huge.
“Innovation is one of our core values and we look forward to collaborating with fellow leaders of different industries, accessing ideas and technology which will help us continue to lead the way in building and managing high quality homes and communities.
“Being able to access validated innovation that has been tried and tested by peers in completely different industries that face similar challenges, is invaluable.”
Henry Majed, Director of Partnerships at Innovation Gateway, commented on the partnership, “It is our great pleasure to welcome Places for People to the Innovation Gateway. Their depth of experience across construction, social housing, property and leisure management, brings completely new perspectives to strengthen the partner group. With their impressive track record and ambition, I have no doubt that working with a diverse range of industry leaders, they will help deliver game-changing innovation across the sectors.”
