Alongside our joint venture partners Urban Splash, we have created two new show homes at the waterfront Smokehouses buildings at Smith’s Dock in North Shields; the two show apartments, each boasting incredible views of the Tyne, will open on Saturday 2nd February – giving visitors a first glimpse inside.
Together we are breathing new life into the former dockyard, creating more than 800 homes, workspaces, green spaces and public amenities.
Guy Ackernley, director of residential sales for the joint venture, explains: “We are very excited to show customers inside the Smokehouses for the first time. Internally, the apartments are stunningly design-led, including floor to ceiling glass windows which allow natural light to flood in – with a fantastic use of space and of course the wonderful river views.”
The Smokehouses comprise of 80, one, two and three bedroom properties. They are the third residential element of Smith’s Dock to be completed as Guy continued: “We’ve already completed 34 houses on the elevated Plateau area of Smith’s Dock – including the George Clarke-designed Fab Houses; these apartments are the first fixture of our scheme directly on the waterfront, bringing a prominent new addition to the local landscape. Aesthetically they’re in keeping with the local area and are a natural architectural extension of the neighbouring apartments at Brewery Bond.
The Smokehouses apartments have been designed by architects SimpsonHaugh; the practice also developed the overall site masterplan which will bring into use much of the waterfront with new ideas for future phases soon to be unveiled.
