It’s been a busy few months at our exciting Engine Yard development in Edinburgh.

Construction work at the former tram depot on Leith Walk has been gathering pace since 2016, with the first new homes and community facilities recently coming to fruition.

In February, the first apartment block was completed and has already welcomed its first new resident. The first wave of new homes are available at mid-market rental rates, with 150 affordable homes soon to be delivered through Holyrood’s National Housing Trust finance initiative.

Later this month, we’ll be launching our striking penthouse showhome, with a 2-bed show apartment and marketing suite to follow shortly. The Engine Yard has seen strong demand for its outright sale homes, with 50% already reserved off-plan. Our first buyer will move in this Spring.

The brand new Places Gym Edinburgh also opened for the local community in November 2018; offering a 70-station gym, a large fitness studio with a fantastic range of weekly classes, plus a large free weights area.

High-quality homes

Colin Rae, Group Development Director for Places for People said, “It’s incredibly rewarding to see the Engine Yard breathing new life into a brownfield site that had been left neglected for several years. It has always been our intention to deliver a really special neighbourhood of high-quality homes here, with mixed-tenures offering the opportunity for everyone to become part of this vibrant new city centre community.”

To reduce the number of under-occupied homes in this part of Edinburgh, investors will not be allowed to buy homes at Engine Yard, through a clause written into title deeds. It is hoped that by limiting the part-time rental of properties through short-term and holiday lets, a stronger local community will develop.

Vibrant new community

On completion, the Engine Yard development will comprise 380 mixed-tenure homes suited to all stages of life; including mid-market rent, social rent, retirement properties and homes for outright sale. Residents will also benefit from underground parking, a new Masonic lodge, along with the new Places Gym.
