Swapping the gym for the garden, green-fingered volunteers from Burradon hit the great outdoors to get active and spruce up their outdoor communal space.

Staff and residents from Kirkdale Court over 55s scheme, which is run by Places for People, helped to revitalise the communal gardens with new garden furniture and seasonal plants.

Coined as a Green Gym Day, the event was organised to promote physical and mental wellbeing for the residents, whilst also improving the resident’s outdoor communal space.

Amy Chadwick, Place Manager at Places for People, said: “We had a fantastic response from volunteers, colleagues and residents who helped to create an appealing and comforting communal garden space for our residents. I’d like thank everybody who contributed, from helping to plant new flowers and build the garden furniture, to making the tea for our deserving volunteers.”

Fred, a resident at Kirkdale Court, added: “I thoroughly enjoyed myself on the Green Gym Day, it was lovely being outside and making a difference to our space, also the younger members of the community were a great help. I am really pleased with the results.”
