We have been announced as joint winner of the Social Impact Award at the Property Awards 2020.
The win highlights how social impact is a central theme across the Group, as we aim to make a positive difference in communities. In 2019/20 we delivered initiatives that demonstrated over £87.9 million in social impact for customers and communities.
This year marked the 25th anniversary of the annual Property Awards run by Property Week and the event was celebrated virtually given the current lockdown rules. New for this year, the Social Impact Award celebrates the important role of the property industry in initiating projects that benefit local communities and recognises the growing importance of social impact.
David Cowans, Chief Executive of Places for People, said: “Winning this award for social impact means a lot as the ethos of our business is putting people first and social impact is a central theme that runs through everything we do. Our core work includes creating positive social outcomes by developing thriving communities and giving back through grants, sponsorship, volunteering and social investment. It is really encouraging to see that social impact is moving up the agenda for the property industry as a whole.”
Over the last year, we have made a significant difference to some of the most challenging social issues including unemployment, homelessness, domestic violence, mental health and well-being. Initiatives include the Ferry Project, which provides accommodation to homeless people; helping over 2,762 people into employment or training opportunities; and providing positive activities for over 13,500 young people.
