The week of the 6th October saw our 3rd annual ‘DIY SOS’ event at the Living+ Windmill Lane scheme. The Sheffield scheme, which was nominated by staff to receive the makeover, provides temporary accommodation for young homeless families.

Staff from the Affordable Housing business joined our Major Works contractors and our wider supply chain to renovate a classroom facility which is used to host deliver support sessions and educational activity. Our volunteers, including some of our senior managers, also worked with our Landscapes colleagues to improve the garden space.

The annual event is organised by Places for People Neighbourhoods and brings together our Major Works contractors; Novus, Keepmoat and our own PMD department as well as PfP Landscapes alongside other contractors including , Furniture Resource Centre, Acumen Waste, Nationwide Windows, Highbury Homes, Moores, Jewsons and PPG to donate materials, time and skills to this worthwhile project.

The week-long makeover saw our partners fit new windows and doors, new toilets and bathrooms, a new kitchen, replace lighting and heating, lay new flooring and provide new furniture. The classroom also benefitted from a full redecoration, including a mural, external wall insulation system and a new rendered exterior.  The classroom looks fantastic inside and out with the partners donating approximately £50,000 of materials and services.
