Places Leisure Camberley Centre is now open!

– 2 min read

Surrey Heath’s Deputy Mayor and Places Leisure’s Contract Manager Duncan Mackay cut a ribbon this month to mark the brand new centre’s opening day.

The new multi-million pound state-of-the-art centre has been built on the site of the old Arena Leisure Centre and brings an impressive, modern leisure facility to Surrey Heath and the local area.

The Deputy Mayor of Surrey Heath, Cllr Helen Whitcroft was joined at the ceremony with Surrey Heath Borough Council’s Leader, Cllr Alan McClafferty, Surrey Heath Borough Council’s Deputy Leader, Cllr Colin Dougan, alongside operator Places Leisure and Pellikaan Construction.

The Group, together with construction partner Pellikaan Construction, successfully built the new centre throughout the pandemic despite the enormous challenges faced by the construction industry over the last 12 months.

“We celebrate a landmark occasion today and we are so proud of our fabulous new leisure centre – it truly is magnificent! “A build of this size and complexity is challenging at the best of times – but it has also been constructed during a pandemic. It is a testament to the team at Places Leisure and Pellikaan Construction that the centre has opened its doors today as planned. “A project of this scale also relies on a number or organisations working together and I give thanks to each of them today. “I urge everyone to visit the centre and enjoy the many facilities on offer to get fit and healthy and also enjoy lots of fun activities with family and friends.”

Cllr Whitcroft - The Deputy Mayor of Surrey Heath,

Places Leisure were awarded the 25-year Design, Build, Operate and Maintain Contract for the new Camberley leisure centre, along with Pellikaan Construction and architects Roberts Limbrick.

“We are delighted to open Places Leisure Camberley together with Surrey Heath Borough Council despite the challenges presented by the current pandemic. The breadth of activity offered will ensure that the centre caters for all members of our community and we are looking forward to welcoming more people through the doors and back into activity in the months and years ahead.”

Paul McPartlan - CEO, Places Leisure

The centre features a cutting edge fitness suite – equipped with the latest workout machines and apparatus, 25 metre 6-lane pool, learner pool with adjustable floor, splash zone (interactive water confidence area), eight court sports hall, group exercise studios, health suite, temperature controlled yoga studio, immersive cycling studio, a vibrant Clip 'n Climb climbing arena and a Costa Coffee Café.
