In recent years we have embedded ourselves in this tight-knit community which was once home to a thriving shipyard; while the docks may have sadly ceased to operate, the heritage of what was once at the heart of this community remains and that’s why our vision is to create a neighbourhood which embraces the best of days gone by, whilst injecting new designs, new homes, new public spaces and breathe new life into this beautiful Tyneside site.
We've already completed the first 114 homes here; 24 Town House homes - each created using modern methods of construction - stand on a raised area of the neighbourhood known as the Plateau; they are all fully sold and occupied. 10 Fab House homes, designed by TV architect and North East local George Clarke, are also completed and sold.
The Smokehouses waterfront buildings, comprising a total of 80 apartments and ground floor commerical spaces, are also complete. A new waterside restaurant, 31 The Quay, has now opened here and the final handful of homes are now on sale.

“This is such an exciting development for North Shields and North Tyneside as a whole…Smith’s Dock is a site with a lot of heritage and I’m grateful to both Places for People and Urban Splash for being so considerate with the work and making sure that this site, which has been such a huge part of North Tyneside’s history, will play a big part in its future as well.”
