Lesley's learning journey - CIH Level 4 Certificate in Housing

When Lesley Toland-Jones began the CIH Level 4 Certificate in Housing through PfP Thrive, she wasn't starting from scratch. As a Regional Estates Manager at Places for People, she already had years of experience working in housing.

But with this responsibility, Lesley felt the importance of continuing to learn and develop, wanting to deepen her understanding of the sector and build on the experience she'd gained throughout her career.

"I recognised it as a great opportunity to strengthen my housing knowledge and support my professional development."

Building a deeper understanding

With a busy management role and day-to-day operational experience, Lesley already understood the practical side of housing. However, the programme gave her the chance to step back and explore the wider context behind the sector, from legislation and regulation to policy and best practice.

The result was not only new knowledge, but a greater appreciation of how the industry works, and the impact housing professionals can have on the lives of Customers.

"The learning has given me greater confidence in my role and has helped me better understand the reasons behind many of the processes and requirements we work with every day."

That increased confidence has helped Lesley make more informed decisions for both Customers and Colleagues.

Supported every step of the way

Completing a learning programme, particularly alongside a full-time role can be difficult, but Lesley found the support available throughout the course invaluable.

"My tutor, Jo Griffin, has been excellent - always approachable, knowledgeable and encouraging. Her guidance has helped me stay focused and get the most from the qualification."

Looking ahead

Completing the programme has strengthened Lesley's commitment to the housing profession and encouraged her to continue investing in her development.

"It has reinforced my commitment to building a successful career within the sector."

For anyone considering a learning programme of their own, Lesley believes the benefits far outweigh the challenges.

"I would encourage anyone considering a learning programme to take the opportunity. Although balancing study alongside a full-time role can be challenging, the knowledge, confidence and professional development you gain make it extremely worthwhile and enjoyable."
