Committed to Net Zero

As part of our journey towards the Zero Carbon Homes Standard, we’re working hard to ensure we maximise the energy performance of our homes – and minimise running costs for Customers.

We’re switching to new technology and materials in order to meet the latest Building Regulations and Standards. We’re also proud to be part of the Future Homes Hub – a group of housebuilding professionals and industry experts working to find long-term solutions to reducing the carbon emissions of new homes.

The benefits of buying new low carbon homes

Research by the Home Builders Federation (HBF) shows that new homes are much more environmentally friendly than older equivalent properties, emitting just 1.4 tonnes of carbon a year, compared to the 3.6 tonnes that existing properties emit.

At Places for People, we design and build our homes to maximise energy efficiency, using energy-saving lighting, eco-appliances and water-saving devices as well as excellent insulation to reduce your carbon footprint and keep your utility costs down. Our homes are rated from A-C.

Buying a new-build home can be good for your bank balance too. The HBF calculates that buyers of new homes save on average £2,510.73 on household bills each year, with buyers of houses saving even more at £3,117.85 (around £260 per month).

Your brand-new Places for People energy-efficient home home also comes with a 10-year warranty, meaning you can move in with peace of mind, without the worry of expensive structural repairs.

Sustainable living - key features

  • Accessible neighbourhoods
We don’t just build sustainable homes across the UK; we create Communities where you can thrive! Places within easy reach of all the services and facilities you need – from shops, restaurants and leisure facilities to schools, businesses and healthcare – to reduce your carbon footprint.
  • Connectivity
Our walkable Communities promote sustainable travel options through footpaths, cycle ways and close proximity to local bus routes. For venturing further afield, major road and rail networks are conveniently nearby. Our Full Fibre network helps with staying connected.
  • More green spaces
Our low carbon homes offer the chance to live in a natural environment, close to beautiful green and recreational spaces. We go to great lengths to protect local biodiversity, wherever possible incorporating ponds, woodland and wildlife habitats into neighbourhood design.
  • Love local
Our thriving communities allow you to live sustainably, supporting local suppliers and even embracing the opportunity to grow your own. Many of our developments feature allotments, with regular farmers’ markets allowing you to enjoy fresh, seasonal produce – minus the carbon emissions!
