Places For People At Leeds Pride Event

Supporting you through the hiring process

At Places for People, we believe everyone should have the opportunity to thrive in their career. We know that applying for jobs and attending interviews can feel daunting, especially if you live with a disability or health condition. That’s why we’re committed to providing extra support where it’s needed - so you can focus on showing us your skills and potential.

How we show our commitment

We are a Disability Confident Employer. This means we actively work to remove barriers in our recruitment process and make sure People with disabilities or long-term health conditions are treated fairly.

We want you to feel reassured that:

  • Asking for support will not negatively affect your application.

  • Every applicant is assessed on their abilities and suitability for the role.

  • We’re here to help you show your best self during the process.

How we provide reasonable adjustments

A reasonable adjustment is a change we make to our recruitment process so that you are not disadvantaged because of a disability or health condition.

This might include:

  • Extra time to complete an assessment.

  • Accessible interview formats (such as video or written).

  • Bringing a support worker or interpreter to your interview.

  • Adjustments to the interview location or set-up.

If you would benefit from a reasonable adjustment, simply let us know when you apply or at any stage of the process. We will work with you to make sure the support is right for you.

How our Guaranteed Interview Scheme works

As part of our Disability Confident commitment, we operate a Guaranteed Interview Scheme.

This means:

  • If you tell us you have a disability, you will be assessed on how you meet the requirements of a role based on your performance throughout the interview and/or wider recruitment process, not by the fact you are disabled.

  • You meet all of the essential criteria for the role, as outlined below.

This scheme helps ensure disabled candidates have a fair opportunity to progress through our recruitment process. Our Guaranteed Interview Scheme also helps to guarantee interviews* for candidates who are neurodiverse and ex-military.

How we define essential criteria

When we advertise a role, we set out the essential criteria – the key skills and experience needed to do the job.

Although we cannot guarantee a job offer, we will guarantee you an interview if you fully meet these essential criteria. This means you must provide evidence in your CV to show that you meet the requirements highlighted in the job advert, and successfully complete any required pre-interview assessments (for example, skills-based tests, situational judgement tests, or ability tests).

Any additional skills we list (sometimes called “desirable criteria”) are not required to qualify for a guaranteed interview.

How you can request support

You can tell us about any reasonable adjustments you may need, or request to be considered under the Guaranteed Interview Scheme, by:

  • Highlighting it in your application form.

  • Speaking directly to our Talent Acquisition team at any point in the process.

All information you share will be treated in confidence.

How we make sure you feel supported

We want every candidate to feel supported, valued, and able to succeed. If you’re thinking about applying and would like to know more about how we can support you, please get in touch with our Talent Acquisition team.

Your story matters - and we’d love for the next chapter of it to be with Places for People.

*While we strive to create fair and inclusive recruitment processes that give everyone the opportunity to succeed, there may be occasions where it is not practicable or appropriate for Places for People to interview all candidates that meet the minimum criteria for a role. For example, in situations when there is a high volume of applications that meet the minimum criteria, we will also use desirable criteria to help us shortlist the candidates.
