Hays Community Hub is an accessible community hub hosting a variety of services.

Location: 4 Hay Avenue, Craigmillar, EDINBURGH, EH16 4AQ

The Hub has a range of events:

Monday 

ESOL Initial Assessments 9.30am-10.30am  

Want to learn English but don’t know where to start? Book an appointment with an ESOL tutor to assess your reading, writing, and speaking skills, ask questions, and register for the right class. 

Community Walk 10am-11.30am  

Join our Community Walking Group from Hays Community Hub. Open to all ages and fitness levels, this community-led group is a great way to enjoy gentle exercise, fresh air, and meet new people. No booking needed — just come along! 

Everyday English 

Elementary (A1) 11am-12pm, Pre-intermediate (A2) 12.30pm-1.30pm  

  • A1: Beginner – simple conversations and basic grammar
  • A2: Elementary – build confidence for daily life and work

ESOL Classes 10am-2.30pm 

These ESOL classes, run by Edinburgh Council CLD tutors, offer a supportive environment to improve reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills. Closed groups provide focused, tailored learning. To register: ESOL@ea.edin.sch.uk 

Decider Skills 2pm-4.30pm 

Closed group- Develop decision-making and problem-solving skills with iThrive. Learn practical strategies to manage challenges, build confidence, and make positive choices in daily life. 

Sudanese Choir 5pm-8pm  

A welcoming space to sing traditional and contemporary Sudanese songs, connect with the community, and share cultural heritage. No experience needed — just a love of music 

Parkinsons Social Café 2pm-4pm (monthly) 

A welcoming space for people with Parkinsons, their families, and carers to meet, share experiences, and enjoy friendly conversation over tea or coffee. 

Tuesday 

Stitch In Time 10.30am-4pm 

Stitch in Time is a friendly, community-led tapestry and needlework group for all levels. Share skills and ideas in sewing, dressmaking, knitting, or tapestry — no tutors, just peer support and encouragement. 

The Welcoming Bridges to Success – 10.30am-12.30pm 

Employability course building soft skills and connection. A free course for new Scots and parents in Edinburgh.  

Sewing Sessions 1pm-3pm 

A friendly, supportive space to learn and practice sewing skills, share ideas, and work on personal projects in a community-led environment 

Wednesday 

Wee Blether 10am-12pm 

Find out what is happening in the area. 

Hays Community Pantry 11am-2pm 

Food at affordable prices, customers can get around £20 worth of food for £5,  

Mindful Mothers 12pm-2pm 

Mindful Mothers is a peer support group offering a safe and welcoming space for mothers to connect. Enjoy a cuppa, have a chat, and meet other local mums.

Thursday 

Pet Foodbank 10am-12pm  

Free pet food - Pop along for free cat and dog food 

Keep Punching 10am-11.15am 

Community Boxing Group – a free, welcoming space for all ages and abilities. Improve fitness, learn boxing skills, and have fun in a friendly environment. Pop along and give it a try! 

Cooking class 12pm-2pm  

Free cooking classes open to community members.  

Friday 

Grassroots Clothing 10am-3pm 

Men's interview clothing charity providing suits to men seeking employment 

Capability Scotland 9am-3pm

Multicultural Youth Group 12pm-2pm

Alfonj Scouts 4-7pm 

Alfonj Scouts is a unit of Scouting Scotland, offering weekly activities to 10-14 year olds, learning life skills and developing independence. 

Sunday 

Sudanese Community Edinburgh 10am-8pm 

Full day of activities including, parent and toddlers, choir, woman's group and tutoring.
