Another step forward for Camden Film Quarter secured
16 June 2026
Places for People (PfP), the UK's leading social enterprise, is thrilled to see the Yoo Capital & PfP partnership secure resolution to grant planning permission for Camden Film Quarter. As part of the landmark development in Kentish Town, Places for People will deliver 485 high-quality homes in one of the most transformational regeneration projects London has seen in a generation.
The approval marks a major milestone in the delivery of much-needed housing in Camden, with 50% of the homes designated as affordable, providing a significant contribution towards tackling London's well-documented housing crisis. At a time when demand for high-quality affordable homes continues to grow across the capital, the scheme will create a new residential neighbourhood designed to support a diverse range of households and communities in one of London's most in-demand boroughs.
PfP will lead the delivery of the residential quarter, centred on two key sites, Inkerman Gardens and Heathgate, which together will provide the 485 homes set within a carefully planned neighbourhood focused on community, sustainability and high-quality public space. The residential quarter will form a key part of the wider Camden Film Quarter masterplan, transforming previously underused industrial land into a vibrant new neighbourhood in north London.
All 485 homes will be energy efficient and built to high environmental standards, with residents benefiting from generous green spaces designed to encourage outdoor activity, play and social interaction. New public parks and play spaces will be woven throughout the residential quarter, creating a network of accessible and welcoming environments for residents and the wider community.
Pedestrian routes through the site will reconnect the neighbourhoods of Kentish Town and Gospel Oak, bringing a previously inaccessible piece of land back into public use in Camden and making it easier for people to move through and enjoy the area on foot.
Andrew Usher, Group Managing Director of Developments at Places for People, said:
"Camden Film Quarter is set to become an important new neighbourhood for north London and the next chapter in PfP's placemaking journey. London is facing a housing crisis that demands bold action and genuine commitment, and we believe this development is exactly the kind of response the capital needs. Delivering 485 high-quality homes, with 50% designated as affordable, will make a real and positive difference to people's lives and help address the acute shortage of genuinely affordable housing in inner London.
“This flagship scheme builds on the success of our transformational projects across the UK such as Park Hill in Sheffield, Poundbury and EastWick and Sweetwater at the Olympic Park. It represents a bold vision for inclusive regeneration and long-term social value in the heart of London and something we are proud to be shaping."
About Camden
Camden Film Quarter is being brought forward in partnership with Yoo Capital, the project's master developer. The wider vision is for a film-led, mixed-use district that will combine new homes with creative industry space, education and community infrastructure. Alongside the residential neighbourhood being delivered by PfP, the masterplan includes proposals for a world-class film and television studio campus, purpose-built education facilities developed in partnership with the National Film and Television School and London Screen Academy, new public parks and play spaces, green energy infrastructure, cultural venues and a range of community amenities and local business support.
The proposals have been shaped in direct response to feedback from local residents and community groups, ensuring the new neighbourhood reflects the character and priorities of the people who live and work in the borough. A dedicated social value programme will run alongside construction, offering volunteering opportunities, inclusive employment, student placements and charity partnerships to ensure the development delivers lasting benefit to the local community.
Further initiatives will include career inspiration events, targeted support for homelessness, scholarships and educational outreach, embedding social value at every stage of the development's delivery.
Partnerships
PfP is working in partnership with architects Broadway Malyan to create a distinctive new residential neighbourhood that combines ambitious architecture with generous public realm and inclusive community design.
Sally Lewis, Principal at Broadway Malyan commented:
"Securing resolution to grant planning for these homes is an important step in delivering the wider vision for Camden Film Quarter. The residential element has been carefully designed to complement the broader regeneration project providing much needed homes for Camden and creating two residential quarters which contribute to a thriving new mixed-use neighbourhood in Kentish Town. BM Stitch is proud to have created two distinctive residential schemes set within generous gardens, each responding to local context and character.
"The approval demonstrates how housing can play a central role in major regeneration projects, delivering not only new homes but also great streets, embedded social value, and long-term benefits for the wider area."
Tony Hardy, Partner at Stace commented:
“The scale and complexity of Camden Film Quarter make it a particularly exciting project to be involved in. Ensuring high-quality studios, housing and public realm are delivered in a commercially sustainable way requires careful collaboration and strong cost control, and we are proud to be part of a scheme that will be a highly valuable addition to the area.”
Places for People will now move forward with delivery in close collaboration with Camden Council, Yoo Capital, local residents and community partners, with a commitment to ensuring the finished neighbourhood stands as a lasting example of inclusive, people-centred regeneration in London and a proud residential cornerstone of the Camden Film Quarter vision.
