New Independent Living Community opens in Hunstanton

People aged 55 and over in west Norfolk now have access to 61 new affordable homes designed to help them live independently, following the official opening of Lavender View in Hunstanton. 

Representatives from Places for People, Norfolk County Council, Homes England and project partners gathered to celebrate the occasion with an official ribbon-cutting ceremony, followed by guided tours of the development and an opportunity to meet the team behind the service.  

Lavender View comprises 61 one and two-bedroom affordable-rent apartments for People aged 55 and over. Customers have access to 24-hour on-site care and support provided by Radis Community Care, helping them maintain their independence while having support available whenever it is needed. 

Developed through a partnership between Norfolk County Council, Places for People, Homes England, Lovell Later Living, Lovell Partnerships, Langtry Langton Architects and Radis Community Care, the service responds to growing demand for high-quality Independent Living accommodation across west Norfolk.  

For Customers, Lavender View is about much more than bricks and mortar. It provides safe, modern homes specifically designed for later life, helping People remain connected to their local Community, maintain their independence and continue enjoying the things that matter most to them.

The development takes its name from the area's famous lavender fields, located just a few miles south of Hunstanton and a well-known feature of the local landscape since 1932. The name reflects the strong connection to the local area and its heritage.  

The service was funded by Places for People with Norfolk County Council contributing £2.9 million in capital funding through its Independent Living programme, with additional grant funding from Homes England.

Tackling the housing and homelessness crisis means providing the right mix of homes to meet people’s different needs, and this new community provides high-quality, affordable homes for people aged 55 and over, alongside the care, support and shared spaces that can help them live independently for longer.   

“Having the right home and support in place can make a real difference to people’s quality of life. We hope Lavender View gives residents a place they’re proud to call home, with the reassurance of care and support when they need it and a welcoming community around them.”
