New modular homes in Bristol give families a place to start again

Five new modular homes have opened at Fortfield Road in Bristol, providing high-quality temporary accommodation for families experiencing or at risk of homelessness. 

Delivered by Places for People, the two-bedroom homes will give families a safe, secure and stable place to live while they work towards moving into permanent housing. 

The homes form part of Places for People's Space to Start campaign, which highlights that modular housing can provide a better alternative to hotels and B&Bs for families in need of temporary accommodation. 

Built by Places for People's specialist modular developer, Modularwise, the homes include a fully accessible property designed to support Customers with mobility needs. Each home provides families with their own front door, bedrooms, living space and fully fitted kitchen, creating a comfortable and independent living environment. 

Built using modern methods of construction, the homes were largely manufactured off site before being transported and installed at Fortfield Road, enabling much-needed homes to be delivered more quickly. 

Fortfield Road has been managed by Places for People since 2001 and currently provides temporary accommodation and support for 22 families. The new homes will expand the support available at the site, helping more families to access accommodation that offers privacy, independence and the space to rebuild their lives. 

Customers living in the new homes will have access to a range of support services, including healthcare, mental health support, education and employment opportunities, helping them move towards longer-term housing solutions.

"Families need somewhere they can cook, sleep, study and spend time together, not simply a hotel room with little privacy or space for family life. These homes give people the stability they need to rebuild their lives, alongside the support to help them move towards permanent housing." 

The development is the latest modular housing scheme delivered by Places for People in Bristol, following seven homes at Stonebridge Park and eight homes at Derby Street. 

Through its Space to Start campaign, Places for People is encouraging greater use of modular housing to help tackle the temporary accommodation challenge, creating high-quality homes that can be delivered quickly to the places where they are needed most.
