Places for People responds to national homelessness plan

Greg Reed Group Chief Executive

On Thursday 11 December Government released a national homelessness plan alongside a five-year roadmap for Homes England. Responding to these strategies, Places for People’s Group CEO Greg Reed said:

“These two announcements show a Government that recognises the urgency of the housing and homelessness crisis and the need for a twin-track strategic approach to delivering the affordable homes Communities need.

“A national homelessness plan is welcome, and it’s right that it takes a cross-Government approach shaped by lived experience. Today’s plan signals stronger collaboration, targeted prevention, and a clear path to reduce reliance on temporary accommodation – where over 172,000 children live without a permanent home and billions of pounds are wasted.

“Alongside this, Homes England’s new five-year strategy should continue to drive collaboration, innovation, and delivery at scale – enabling partners like us to accelerate affordable housebuilding, unlock investment, and tackle root causes of homelessness.

“At PfP, we’ve consistently said that homelessness is our only competition. Last year we helped nearly 17,000 People who were homeless or at risk but we’re also tackling the bigger picture: building modular homes in Salford and Bristol, leading sector-wide financial innovation, and partnering with over 50 organisations to tackle the construction skills crisis through our PfP Thrive skills movement.

“As one of Government’s trusted housebuilding partners with the largest pipeline in our sector, today’s announcements give us the chance to scale impact – working creatively together to address societal challenges, maintain momentum, and drive real change for Communities.”
